I Want To Try The Product First Objection
Anyone that is in a product based MLM has heard the I Want To Try The Product First Objection. In this post, I want to give you a 3 step process to handle this particular objection and be able to make more sales, and recruit more reps.
This is not an unusual objection for network marketers who are in a product based company such as skin care, makeup, health and wellness, weight loss, etc. It is really an obvious objection that a person would want to test a product out before they start promoting it.
I am certain you have done what your company recommends to try and stop this objection by offering product samples at the beginning of your presentation, as well as your testimonial and that of other people of what the products have done for you and them.
When you hear I Want To Try The Product First Objection, it is often time followed by To see if it works for me.
Now let’s be honest here, beauty products can clear up acne, make your skin glow, reduce wrinkles, but the majority of the time it will take more than one use to really see those results. Health results definitely do not happen immediately, they take effect over an extended period of time, just like weight loss.
So let me give you the 3 step process of how to turn this objection into an immediate sign-up.
3 Steps To Effectively Handle The “I Want To Try The Product First Objection”
Step 1: Determine If Your Prospect Is Even Interested In The Business:
You first need to determine if your prospect is even interested in using and promoting the products and making some money. You can do this by saying:
“Let me ask you a question, aside from having to try the product first, do you like the business concept and model? Do you see an opportunity for yourself with this company?
If your prospect says NO then skip to Step 3. If your prospect says YES that they like the concept and business model and they do see an opportunity for themselves here, then you can proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: This Is Where You Sell The Business
Here is where you let them know that it makes better sense to get started now rather than to wait to see if the products work for them or not. Here is an example of what you could say to your prospect at this point.
“So you see the opportunity here to make some money. Let me ask you a question, let’s say you try all the products and they work miraculously for you. You look 20 years younger, you have super strength and stamina. Every one of these products worked for you.
But then when you looked at the numbers they did not work for anyone else No One was buying or using them. Is that a business that you would want to be involved in?
Now on the flip side of that, let’s say you take every one of the products and not even one of them does a single thing for you. But when you looked at the numbers the products were working for the masses, and everyone was buying. Is that a business you would want to be involved in?
So here it is. Our company is doing X amount in sales per year. These products have done X for me, X for John, X for Mary, Z for Sam who is my upline and thousands of more testimonials from all over the country. So see, regardless if the products work for you personally, they are working for the masses. So if you are looking at this from a business standpoint does it not make sense to get in now?”
Now I would recommend that you put this into your own words, but this gives you the basic format of how to handle this objection in your prospects best interest.
Step 3: Emphasize The Membership Discounts
To the best of my knowledge, every network marketing company I know offers discounts to members who enroll. I compare it to Sam’s club or Cosco, there are discounts to membership. A lot of the times the membership pays for itself in a month or two. This can be very beneficial to the prospects who want to try it first. Below is an example of what you can say to them:
“I completely understand you want to try the products first and see if they work for you. In order to do that, you will need to use the products for one to two months for you to actually be able to determine your results. Based on that, the membership fee would have (paid for itself or saved you X amount of dollars). I am more than willing to sell you the products retail, but I like, to be honest, and I showed you that you can save by going ahead with the membership option now and you still will have the option to cancel at any time.”
