I get this question on a regular basis. Why do I need a facebook fan page (business page) for my network marketing business? I decided to address this for you and also show you how to set this page up.
You need this fan page for starters to stay in compliance with facebook’s rules and regulations. Facebook can shut down your personal page for using it to promote your business. That in itself is really reason enough for a business page. Secondly, people do not go on any social media platform to buy anything, they are there to socialize, and see what their friends and family are up to. Trying to promote your business through your personal page will not work. Trust me on that, I made that mistake when I first got into network marketing.
How To Create A Facebook Business Page For Your Network Marketing Business
Step 1: Choosing A Name For Your Business Page
You might think naming a business page after your network marketing company is a good idea, but honestly it is NOT! I am covering exactly why this is not a good idea.
#1. Compliance: Your company more than likely has a regulation against you using their trademark. Even if they do not currently have that in place the odds are at some point they will and when that happens, they can make you pull down any and all websites where you have used that trademark name. Imagine losing all your hard work.
#2. Branding: I understand you love your network marketing company and plan, I think every network marketers feels that way about their company, but let’s be realistic here. Companys can go out of business, things can happen that you feel the need to move to another company, life changes, and circumstances can change. DO NOT RISK losing all your hard work by branding your company, opposed to branding yourself. By branding yourself if things out of your control you have the ability to transition to another company without having to start from scratch. So much easier on you, plus people will not think you are just jumping from one company to another.
#3. Control: I love this part of me branding myself. No one can tell me what I can say or write about, this is my business. No one, not even my network marketing company can tell me they do not like the language or content I put on my business page because I am branding me, not a company. I don’t know about you but I enjoy the freedom of saying what I want to say because I have branded ME. I do not have to worry about any compliance with my network marketing company because I never mention what company I promote. To me, that is a win, win. I know people who have branded a company where rules have changed and they lost 18 months worth of work and content. I never want to be in that position. How about you?
#4. Audience: The purpose of your fan page is to attract people to you. If your page is full of your network marketing company, when someone finds your page and sees what is plastered all over it, they will automatically leave. Remember people love to buy but they DO NOT want to be sold. I always say if you were not in network marketing, and landed on a page, that was full of one promotion after another for a product or service, I know my first thought would be, wow, they want me to buy something. I do not see that person putting any value out. People today are looking for information to solve their problems. If you choose to plaster your company all over any page, you will scare away far more customers than you will ever attract.
#5. Facebook Ads: If you ever decide that you want to run any facebook ads for your fan page, you could find it very difficult, if you are branding your network marketing company. I can not prove this, but I have never seen anyone get an ad approved by facebook based upon the ad promoting a particular network marketing company. If we are going to market on facebook or any social media platform, we want all efforts and work to count.
By now you may be asking well then what should my fan page name be. Here are a few recommendations: Get Fit With Jamie, Nancy’s MakeUp Tips And Tricks, John’s Online Marketing Tips. These names let people know what they will see before they even click on the page. Another angle, and this was my choice was Pam Bartley, I did that because I have my blog, I had a graphic artist design my logo, and the person who clicks on my page can tell exactly by my banner what I am all about. Whatever direction you pick, keep everything you do congruent.
Step 2: Setting Up The FanPage
In this step, you want to be logged into facebook. There are two ways you can get to the page like in the picture above. You can click on this link https://www.facebook.com/pages/create/ or you can go to the top blue bar at the top of your facebook page, and on the far right is a little arrow pointed downward, you can click on that arrow, and it will have a drop-down, you will see Create Page if you click on the Create Page there you will also be taken to the above page.
This is the page a lot of network marketers get really confused at. It is really not that difficult. If you are branding yourself, I recommend that you click on the Artist, Band or Public Figure, you can then decide if you want to have your page as Public Figure or Entrepreneur. If you decide do name your page for example, Get Fit With Jamie then you might choose from Brand and Product, or Company, Business, or Organization and from the drop down Health and Fitness.
Do not let all of this concern you, just pick one, and move forward. The important thing is to take action and keep moving. The next thing that it will ask you to do is enter your page name.
Once you have entered the name for your page, click the blue Get Started tab. The next thing that facebook will prompt you to do is add a profile picture and cover photo. Here is some advice that I got from a 7 figure earner in the industry. If at all possible, use a professionally created photo, be smiling, and look professional. Remember you are now a business earner, and you have the ability to turn your business into a million plus a year income. Now for your cover page, if you are branding yourself especially then consider spending as little as $5 dollars on Fiverr and have a logo created. Once you have the logo, it is very easy to go to Canva and create your cover for your facebook business page. If you are going the route of Business like “Get Fit With Jamie”, I would recommend going to Fiverr as well and having a cover created. You get one shot at first impressions, so you want it to be a good one. Whatever you do, if you are branding you or doing it as a Business side, DO NOT use your company logo, or any photos of the products that your company sales. If you do, you are defeating everything, as I explained above.
For your reference the size of a facebook cover is 851 px X 315 px. Also, facebook is going to ask you to like and share your page at this point. Do Not do it yet, at the very least you want to complete the next step. I personally would complete the next 2 steps.
Step 3. Filling In Your About Section:
On your home page of your new fan page, on the left-hand side, you will see several boxes. You want to start at the top, and go through each category, click edit and fill out as much as you can. Remember, do the best you can, you can go back and change things. The point is, Get It Done!! Procrastination will not help your business, every marketer makes changes, as time goes by, and you will too. Something up is far better than nothing.
Step 4. Share Some Relevant Content: Before you invite anyone to like your page you definitely want to have some relevant content, photos, videos, etc on your page. Find you are few articles, quotes, videos that are of interest to your target market. If you are not sure, you can do a google search for content. Now if you just copy the person’s content make sure to give that person credit. What you can do, however, is you can do your research and put what you find in your own words for your target market. For videos, I would mention the person’s name who created the video. You may even want to reach out to that person and tell them what you are doing with their video and thank them. You never know they may send people to your site. Make sure you are consistent with putting content on your page. If all you can do is once a week, then set a day that you will, so your audience will learn to watch for it on that particular day. If you can post more, that will be even better, but be consistent, you have the ability with a fan page to schedule your post, take advantage of that feature. When you go to publish content, you will notice that there is a little arrow on the publish button, it has a drop-down that gives you the option to schedule your post for whenever you want your audience to see them. I absolutely love this feature, especially when I know I have a lot going on. I can take a few minutes and schedule post for several days ahead.
This is not the time for you to put any links to your network marketing company on your page. Your only job right now is to build relationships with your target market, they get to know, like and trust you. You want them to see you as a person of value.
Step 5. Check Your General Settings And Notifications:
On your page, you will see at the top right where it says Settings, click on that and you will see a page just like the one above. I have marked the ones you want to make sure and check and set to your preference. You want to make sure that your page is published, and public. For notifications, you can decide how you want to be notified either through facebook notifications, email or both. I feel that it is very important to interact with your new fans when they like, comment, or share your content. That is a great way to start building that relationship with your audience.
